What's In A Name
51
Have you ever been in the doctor's office, driving bureau, or even church and heard names called you can barely understand less known read or pronounce using the rules of modern phonics? Well, I'm pretty sure that many of us have experienced this, or at least knows someone who has. This leads me to ask: What's In A Name.
There was a time when names were chosen as if to prepare you to be leaders, officials, conquerors, or even diplomats. There was a time when people were named after Greek goddesses, Roman warriors, historical geniuses, music sensations, biblical powerhouses, and so forth. Now days, children are lucky to receive a name that they can pronounce. Many of these names sometimes seem as though they danced from the artistic lines of a Dr. Seuss book. In some instances, it has even become commonplace to use nicknames as real names.Big mistake! Just imagine first lady Fefe (Fee Fee) being taken seriously. Its seems that the pets are getting all the real names these days.
Seriously people, we have to be more conscience of what we are doing. Think ahead. It is okay to be creative, but know your boundaries. Other people have to say these names out loud someday. Remember that they will move from your doodle filled page jottings in your possible baby names notebook. So let's get back to giving names that will not easily rhyme with banana, can be said without a giggle, and most of all...won't embarass the poor kids.

I agree! I an glad that I didn't get too creative with naming my children. When I was young I thought about some pretty poetic names that now would have probably caused my kids to live with emotional scars from name calling. Great points made here!
