Post Holiday Blues

The hustle and bustle of the holidays has ended just as suddenly as it came. You find your home more quiet, your days less busy, your bank accont balances smaller, and yourself less happy. So what happened? Where did it all go? What happened to the overflow of family and friends? The joy? The laughter? Your excitement? You're sad and aren't quite sure why. It could be that you have a case of the POST HOLIDAY BLUES.

Yes, year after year we await the arrival of the much anticipated "holiday season". The time when families travel far and wide for gatherings. The time when employers give bonuses (so we hope) and schools give extended vacations. The time when neighbors are more neighborly, friends are more friendly, and children are...well...still children. We find ourselves engulfed in feelings of pleasure, obligation, idealic love, warmth, and so much more. Nonetheless, no sooner than the trees are all tossed, and the ball has dropped we find ourselves in void from the absence of the "holiday spirit".

Could the answer to your blues lie in the very source of your blues? Focusing on the hoidays themselves and becoming enthralled in the busyness of it all, can quickly cause us to lose focus on the real reasons for these celebrations to begin with. Leading to this discontent after the smoke clears. We must remember that all good things come to an end just to come again another day.

You must find other positives to embrace in your day to day life. Those family and friend ties that were strengthened over the hoildays...nurture them.. Those new recipes you tried...make them for some one in need and share them. Those extra, stand by gifts you bought..donate them to a shelter or your local place of worship. Finding ways to be of service to someone that needs it, not only allows you to fill that void of the giving and desire to be busy or be needed many often feel, but you will also be doing a great service for your community as well. So stay busy being a blessing, but don't forget to make time for yourself. Happy 2011!
